FAQs

Can we chat and find out more ?

I’d like nothing more! Let’s book a discovery call or catch up for coffee and chat through the type of ceremony you’re looking for and how I can help.

Of course – you can read my reviews on Google – my profile is Catriona Tanner Wedding Celebrant

As soon as possible! Once you’ve confirmed your venue and the date of your celebration, next on the list – book your celebrant! Wedding celebrants get very busy, especially on weekends, so it’s always best to book in plenty of time to avoid disappointment.

No, Humanist celebrants are celebrants, but not all celebrants are Humanists!  To be authorised to solemnise marriage in Scotland (in other words to legally marry you) a celebrant needs to be a member of a religious or belief body. Humanism is one such belief body but there are actually many many others who are authorised by the Registrar to solemnise weddings.
I am a member of Celebrants Scotland – a non religious belief body whose values are based on supporting and encouraging environmental conservation. Throughout the year we organise and participate in environmental projects for example beach clean ups, tree planting & re-wilding initiatives. We’ve supported primary schools & nurseries with wild flower seeds & planters and have donated to the Butterfly Trust. This year in November we’ll be planting a tree for every wedding we’ve performed in 2025!
As a Celebrants Scotland Marriage Officer I am authorised to solemnise marriage anywhere in Scotland. In other words I am a wedding celebrant who can legally marry you! Yipee!

I would love to help you elope in Scotland! Edinburgh has many fantastic locations for romantic, intimate elopement ceremonies. As a Marriage Officer with Celebrants Scotland I can legally marry you anywhere in Scotland.

Please do! Handfasting is a lovely symbolic ritual to include in your ceremony, but there are many others you might like to consider. I’ll share some further ideas when we meet.

Of course, I’d love to! I believe in treating everyone equally and what matters most is that you’re madly in love. Same-sex marriages have been legal in Scotland since 2014. Let’s get you married.

A naming ceremony celebrates the birth of your baby, or a child joining your family, in a non-religious ceremony. It’s the perfect excuse to gather all your favourite people together to celebrate your growing family.

A vow renewal ceremony is the chance to celebrate your ongoing love and the life you’ve built together. We can renew your vows in a small intimate celebration or as part of a larger shindig.

Yes you can – with the landowners permission of course. I love conducting ceremonies outdoors in the historic city of Edinburgh. Or why not hold your celebration in a location which is meaningful to you – on the beach, the hills or at the Secret Cabin in East Lothian – a cosy romantic hideaway which is perfect for renewing your vows.

That’s ok! Scotland is a very popular wedding destination for couples from all over the world. If you want to be legally married in Scotland there is, of course, some paperwork involved. Alternatively many couples choose to be legally married in their home country and have a symbolic wedding or commitment ceremony in Scotland. The National Records of Scotland website is a useful starting point if you’re exploring getting married in Scotland and are non-UK nationals.

Of course! What do you have in mind? I’d be delighted to discuss adoption ceremonies, renaming ceremonies and pet memorials. Let me know what you’re looking for and we can explore further.
